A special message from our President Ashley McDonald

I joined the Main Street Board in 2020, representing Rutherford County Government at the time. In all honesty, I had not a fraction of a clue of how much Main Street did for our downtown area and businesses. My previous knowledge of Main Street was limited to coordinating with the past executive director while working for the fire department. We would schedule fire trucks to be present at certain events.

The more I got to know Main Street, the more I understood its mission, values, and passion for serving the community. Few people realize that Main Street is a non-profit and that most events are planned and executed with the assistance of volunteers. We would not be able to provide all that we do without our compassionate and diligent helpers!

In my early Main Street days, I served on both the Promotions and Celebrate Christmas committees—eventually chairing both. The people you meet and serve with on these committees are incredible—a diverse group of individuals that add tremendous value to our events with their various talents, gifts, and of course, their time.

As this year’s Board President, I’ve certainly come to appreciate our volunteers more now than ever. As we continue to expand our array of events and experience larger groups in attendance (which is phenomenal), we would love to see even more people in our community be a part of this! I encourage you to become involved in some way—whether it is serving on a committee or just volunteering for a specific event such as Taste of Rutherford or Friday Night Live. We are always in need of volunteers for set up and clean up, but you are not limited to those ways to serve. Contact our amazing Executive Director, Sarah Calendar, and she will get you connected with volunteer opportunities that work for you.

We understand that everyone is busy, so if you’re not able to volunteer, we get it. Perhaps your way to help Main Street would be to donate financially instead? Sarah can help you with that as well.

Regardless, we hope you’ll attend our fun and exciting Main Street events and support our businesses in the downtown area.

We look forward to seeing how we can work together to make a difference in our beautiful and thriving community!
