The story of Bart's - a social media post started it all...
On June 10th, 2024, a friend mentioned a post about a bakery for sale, and she insisted that we should buy it. I laughed and said "No"...but God had a different plan. Later that same evening, my husband and I talked more about this post, so I reached out. Two days later we met with the previous owner and the next day we met with him and his wife. By the time we left we had a verbal agreement in place. Two days after that we negotiated the final sale. On July 1st our lease began and we became the new owners of Bart's Kitchen & Bakery. We prayed, we asked our friends to pray and we asked God to give us green lights if this is what we are supposed to do. We got all green lights and so in the process we had to come up with a name. We didn't want to use our names, so I suggested "Bart".
Who is "Bart"?
We were looking at owning a small farm and on the farm my husband wanted to have a donkey and his name would be Bart. We never did find a farm to purchase, and we felt that we needed to be content to stay where we are. Then we found a canvas picture of Bart at Buccee's, which now hangs in our living room (and now a duplicate is in our shop). Fast forward to needing to come up with a name for this new business - we decided on Bart's Kitchen & Bakery - there is a story behind the name and it's easy to remember. The next day, after reading my morning devotional, I called my husband to let him know what Bart's stands for - Blessed And Ready To Serve - another green light that we were on the right path. We opened our doors on July 16th, 2024 and we are so happy, excited and blessed to be able to serve our community with homemade casseroles, sandwiches, salads, baked goods and more. We are also grateful to be able to support other small businesses by carrying thier products in our retail areas.
