Saturday Market Newsletter October 17, 2026

It's Time for Cool Weather Produce

The days when tomatoes have been the star of the market are winding down (and honestly, we’re ready for a change), but the market is still full of fresh, delicious choices. Fall brings tender kale, Swiss chard, collards, and other hearty greens—perfect for soups, sautés, and healthy, tasty meals. Look for radishes and turnips, too: roast them, toss them into a salad, or enjoy them straight from the crisper.

This is the time to buy fresh carrots, cabbage, broccoli, winter squash, sweet potatoes, and more. Cool-weather crops have plenty of flavor and many store well, so it’s easy to bring home a little extra for later.

There’s no need to say goodbye to seasonal market shopping just because summer is fading. Come see what our growers have harvested this week, ask what’s tasting especially good, and take home something new to try. The Saturday Market is open through October 31--three more weeks.

Quintessential Creatives Rescue Initiative

Mehgan, best known for her customized doggy bandanas at the market, has started a project to benefit animal rescue here in Rutherford County. Here's her story:  While cleaning out my own dog’s “closets," I decided to find a good way to recycle and raise money for animal rescue. At my booth, Quintessential Creatives, I have a basket of gently used (and cleaned), pet toys, clothes, collars, and leashes called the “thrift basket.” Each item in the basket is only $2. All basket sales will go to a local rescue at the end of the season. How can you help? If you have cleaned out your own dog’s/cat’s closets and have things in your goodwill pile, consider donating them to me to sell for you! I’m hoping to have a little bit of something for everyone in that basket to help the rescues in any way I can!
