Last Updated 11/3/2025Posted in News

Main Street Murfreesboro’s “Scarecrows Downtown” contest brings creativity to the heart of our city. Open to artists of all ages, the competition welcomes businesses, civic groups, churches, community organizations, and families to join in the fun. Thank you to everyone who participated this year.

1st Place Peoples Choice Scarecrow Winner

First place people's choice went to the Rutherford County Building and Codes Department with Mad Hatter from Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland movie.

Fun Fact: This movie came out in 1951.

2nd Place Peoples Choice Scarecrow Winner

Second, people's choice was to go to the Rutherford County Election Commission's office, where there was a scene from Wicked.

3rd Place Peoples Choice Scarecrow Winner

This fan-favorite scarecrow was created by the local nonprofit Kymari House and was a huge hit with Bluey fans! 💙 Their creative “Granny Mobile” featuring Rita and Janet brought plenty of smiles to downtown and could be found parked right in front of Domenico's Italian Deli on the Square.

1st Place Judges Choice Scarecrow Winner

Mad Hatter won first place in Judges Choice as well as first place in the People's Choice. Made by the Rutherford County Building and Codes Department.

2nd Place Judges Choice Scarecrow Winner

Photos simply can’t capture how magical this Wizard of Oz themed scarecrow display truly was! From Dorothy and Toto to the Wicked Witch tucked under the house, every detail brought the classic story to life. And if you peeked in the window, you’d even spot a spinning tornado swirling inside! This enchanting display was created by Copper & Co. Hair Studio, a downtown Murfreesboro business located at 113 S. Church Street.

3rd Place Judges Choice Scarecrow Winner

This third Place Judges Choice Scarecrow Winner was proudly displayed at Michael Busey’s new State Farm office at 317 N. Walnut Street and created by the Tennessee State Veterans’ Homes. As a veteran himself, Michael was thrilled to showcase this special scarecrow honoring our heroes. What a perfect fit for his new downtown location!

Scarecrows That Support Small Businesses

While people are here to enjoy the scarecrows, they are also grabbing lunch, shopping, or discovering a new favorite business. That circulation of dollars directly supports our small businesses, keeps money local, and strengthens the heartbeat of downtown.
