It starts from the ground up. Whether it's plowing, planting, picking, or packing, a lot goes into bringing customers the fresh produce, meat, and eggs they expect to find at the Main Street Murfreesboro Saturday Market. And we all appreciate the opportunity to connect with community while we support local farmers.

A good farmer's market also taps into the creative energy of the bakers, herbalists, artisans, and musicians in our community. And this week, during National Farmer's Market Week, we want to thank them all.

These folks work hard to bring you good food, fresh from their fields, not trucked from thousands of miles away. Our vendors are baking and mixing and preparing foods to bring it fresh to the market. They are crafting jewelry, ceramics, and metal art for you-their customers. Ever seen a block of Shiitake Mushrooms?

John, at Possum Bottom Farms, told us he often gets questions about where he "finds" his mushrooms. There is no random finding. He and his wife cultivate the mushrooms that he brings to the market each week. He sent this photo of a block of Shitakes. This block will yield about 2.5 pounds of mushrooms for his market customers. Check out their website gallery for more fungi images. It's fascinating.
